Erstbeschreibung[Bearbeiten]
Chancelloria wurde im Jahr 1920 erstmals von Charles Doolittle Walcott wissenschaftlich beschrieben.
Vorkommen[Bearbeiten]
Neben der Typlokalität im mittelkambrischen Burgess Shale in British Columbia, Kanada findet sich Chancelloria auch im Comley Limestone in Shropshire in England,<ref>Reid, R. E. H.: Occurrence of Chancelloria Walcott in the Comley Limestone. In: Geological Magazine. Band 96 (3), 2009, S. 261, doi:10.1017/S0016756800060271.</ref> in der Marcory-Formation in Südfrankreich, im Wheeler Shale in Utah<ref>Keith Rigby, J.: Porifera of the Middle Cambrian Wheeler Shale, from the Wheeler Amphitheater, House Range, in Western Utah. Taxonomische Stellung[Bearbeiten]
Walcott deutete Chancelloria ursprünglich noch als primitiven Schwamm.<ref>Walcott, C. D.: Cambrian geology and paleontology IV:6—Middle Cambrian Spongiae. In: Smithsonian Miscellaneous Collections. The integument of Cambrian chancelloriids.
